Thanks to my pal and hostess, Ruth Bull for holding the video camera while I stepped in the freezing water.
Me with my friend, Ruth Bull — what a great way to start out my trip!
cute sandpipers at the beach
The view from Ruth’s living room of the Pacific Ocean is breathtaking… er, uh, at least it was yesterday when there were blue skies and it was 70 degrees outside. Today, it was overcast and cold.
My first stop along the way: Solvang, a Danish town in California.

Ebleskivers — little warm pancake balls of yummy goodness

Nodding Place — the shop where I saw the Matelaisse quilt that lead to $700 later…
Creation Station quilt shop in Buellton, CA – right on the edge of Solvang
Dawn and Patrick Farrier – owners and here is a picture of Dawn (center) with two happy customers.

the floor is painted throughout the shop, to appear as a stoned walkway, complete with dandelions and ants!

The apron and kitchen area of the shop where they have a stove and a mangle!

The Kaufman Kona collection. What a great substitute for expensive hand-dyes. Perfect for applique.

The best notions wall I have ever seen! Antique ironing boards, that Dawn said took a while to collect!

flowery pin cushions!

Then, I met Gina Halladay at her shop in Yorba Linda, CA Cranberry Quiltworks – a Gammill Distributor, where her Threaded Pear Studio resides and she is expanding to add a quilt shop in the space.
Gina, our beloved QuiltersBuzz blog-queen, with a new fabric collection, Michael Miller’s Andalucia by Patty Young
Gina’s new sample quilt — do ya LOVE this fabric?!
Welcome to Cranberry Quiltworks!
Gammill longarms — oooh, I want one of those!
Threads, oh yeah!

Thanks Annie! I so excited to have won the contest. It makes parting with a favorite quilt easier to bear. Though Steve is my brother- in- law.
Cindy
Thanks Annie for the journal! Glad I entered
Congrats to Claire. That sure was an interesting quilt. Thanks also for the great interviews! It is so nice to listen to them and get to know a little about those people, hear their voices and see their books, works of art or their shops, especially on these COLD wintery days in Mich. It was cute to hear you soooo excited about snow. I would be like that if I could stick my feet in the ocean in CA. LOL

Ooops — sorry Claire!! I underscore the fact that I *am* a Goober!

Hi Annie,
Loved your interview with Gina. You uncovered a lot of great information for us. As always, your awesome. Thanks!
Phyllis
p/s : I volunteer to be Gina’s Admin Assist … especially for future cruises! What a great idea to combine Quilting and Knitting on a cruise.

Annie,
I am enjoying every minute of your recap of your trip. Does Gina ever sleep. I wish I had 1/4 the energy she has. The two of you just filled my head with ideas. I just love your podcast. Can not wait to hear the next installment.
annie
Hey, Phyllis — you should email Gina and let her know! She is really serious about doing the cruise.
Are you a member of the Moonlight Quilters? I am going to do a lecture and workshop with them in Feb. – 18th & 21st. Maybe we’ll be able to see each other then?
annie
Laura– Gina doesn’t sleep much. She’s just one of those people who can get by on less sleep. I wish that were me, but I need 7-8 hours to do what I do.
I’m glad that you’re enjoying the podcast! The early interview with WebGuy where we talked about “to stash or not to stash” has been archived and can be found the Archive DVD that is available. It was comment-provoking, and lots of fun for us to do.
Phyllis
Hi Annie,
Yes, I did send Gina a message about it, too.
No, I’m not a member of the Moonlight Guild but I’ll see if I can get in without knowing anyone. I know YOU so maybe that’ll get me in…. (grin)
GmaTerri
I loved the podcast with Gina! The two of you made good travel companions today as I traveled across the bay. I’m anxious to hear more.
