also known as Lori Holt –

I have been a long-time fan of Lori’s, all the way back to her tole painting days, but I absolutely LOVE Lori’s quilts. So much, that I have bought Lori’s patterns and kits to make ones of my own because I love hers so much! I think that says a lot, since I design my own too.

Here is a pic of my favorite pattern design of Lori’s (and the kit I bought):

To see close-up pictures of each of the blocks, visit Lori’s blog on this link for Comforts of Home and you’ll understand why I love this quilt so much.

Ok, so visit Lori’s blog to check out EVERYTHING that’s there — it will take you a while ; )

Make sure to come back and leave a comment here for a chance to win one of these great new patterns by Lori:

Tell me what inspires you most about Lori’s blog and her quilt designs, and which of the three patterns you would like to win.

I will choose three winners on Tuesday, June  14th and announce here on the blog – don’t forget that you have to come back here and check to see if you won, and send me your mailing address, because I don’t have it ; )

Oh, by the way, here are pictures of the two All Dolled Up in Salt Lake City quilts that were made by Utah Quilters who are in the industry. You can also get the free patterns by visiting the blog, All Dolled Up.

and a closeup of Lori’s block:

Fantastic, isn’t it?! No one can relate to sitting under that hair dryer bonnet that never did… I remember it well and those curlers! This block is so Lori!

Crackitty-crack and Winners…

Monday, June 13th, 2011

I’ve been errant again. I have a really good story for you though ; )

Last Tuesday, I met a friend for breakfast on her birthday. Boy, did we have a fun time! So much so, that we decided to go shopping at Walmart and Costco afterward.

After parking and rounding the end of my car… I found myself on the ground within two seconds. I was felled by  the broken end of a glass bottle (so like, the butt end of a wine bottle), which my shoe hit just the right way to roll my ankle — and down I went.

I didn’t realize until two days later that this is what I look like:

not me, really, but you get the picture…. pun intended….

I have a cracked bottom rib with enough soft tissue damage to cause serious pain. My diagnosis… 12 weeks of recovery. Oh my heck! I don’t have time for this!

The good thing is that it won’t keep me away from the keyboard and microphone any longer. The other residual pain to my neck and spine are much better. I told the Doc today, “it just hurts when I move“.

So, here are (belatedly) the Winners of the last two drawings, with more to come!

For the Aurifil Thread packs:

Gayle Grier

Anne Jacobson

SKBrown

Cindy

Jo Vandermey

Ann McG

Nancy Mathewson

A Friend passes…

Monday, June 6th, 2011

I had the pleasure of interviewing Ellen Edith at her studio in Santa Cruz, CA several podcasts ago — podcast 78 to be precise.

Ellen was a fabulous, creative art quilter with a flair for making quilts that captured family snapshots in the most humorous way.

My friend, Kay MacKenzie just sent me an email about Ellen’s passing. We heard that she had been ill for awhile and was in hospice and hoped to visit her. The saddest words are “too late”.

Here is a link to the podcast with Ellen

and a link to her website

Her stories made up in her quilts are not be missed.

So, here’s the deal:

Listen to Ellen’s podcast so you can get a small example of this great lady’s talent.

Leave me a comment about the podcast by Friday June 11th and I will pick a lucky winner for this creative prize that will help you be on your way to your own story quilts:

Happy trails, Ellen! You left quite a legacy ; )

Aurifil Calendar Girl!

Monday, June 6th, 2011

It’s finally here, the month of June with all of its’ intrigues — like rain and chilly weather in normally sunny California. Now, lest you think that this is an anomaly, it rained the second week of June in 1972 and the graduation had to be moved indoors. It’s great stay-inside-and-quilt weather, which is just what I did on Saturday…

It turns out that I am the Auriful designer of the month for JUNE!

In a previous blogpost, It’s All About the Thread I talked about how much I love to use Aurifil thread.

In today’s blogpost, I want to share my AuriBuzz page with you.

You may learn some things about me that you didn’t know…

In fact, Aurifil has been super generous with a giveaway…

and… if you go and visit AuriBuzz and then comment back here…

YOU will have a chance to win an Aurifil Sample pack, and there will be several winners!

this is a sample of how many I have to give away…

So, make a creative comment and I will pick the winners on Tuesday, June 7th.

In the meantime, check out the websites and Aurifil Designer projects for the other Calendar Girls:

January: Susan Brubaker Knapp

February: Linda Lum DeBono

March: Sarah Vedeler

April: Susan Guzman

May: Kaye England

and the rest to come:

July: Barbara Persing and Mary Hoover

August: Jinny Beyer

September: Edyta Sitar

October: Marianne Byrne-Goarin

November: Larisa Bland

December: Sharon Pederson

AuriBuzz will be updated at the first of each month with the new Designers projects. Don’t forget that there is a giveaway for the Aurifil Project Winner — for everyone who enters a project based on that month’s design.

Oops — I almost forgot to tell you that there is an Aurifil Thread Retailer in the U.S. where you can buy those hard-to-find Aurifil Threads online! Visit Follow That Thread for all of the details.

I’m looking forward to hearing from you!!
