Thank you, thank you, to all of you who made contributions for this show. It’s so fun to hear Your voice!

Check out Len and Nora’s podcast, Jawbone Radio. They are truly Podcast Pioneers and have been around longer than I have. Very talented and very funny.

Here’s a picture of the celebratory cake:

The final interview at Bishop’s Ranch retreat with Angie Kiker. Angie started the Yahoo Group for Home Quilters in 2003, which now has thousands of members. If you’re interested in joining, you can find the group at Home Quilting Systems.

This Yahoo Group is for everyone who does their own machine quilting on their domestic sewing machines. Angie uses the Brother PQ1500S sewing machine with a Hinterberg quilting frame. She is a wealth of knowledge and a machine quilting expert. Her quilting is amazing!

Unfortunately, I didn’t get a picture with Angie. But here is a group picture — can you even imagine how much fun they had?!

What a delight to visit with Janet Shore, one of the original Quilt Guild founders of Northern California. Janet took her first class from Roberta Horton when Roberta taught at a community center in the late 70′s.

Janet has a wealth of information about her quilting adventures and she is fascinating to listen to. She is a fantastic quilter, too — and not a traditional one. She prefers the freedom of Art quilts. Janet is a founding member of the East Bay Heritage Quilt Guild and the Northern California Quilt Council and knows every national teacher/quilter on a personal level. In fact, her friends at the retreat lamented about how they can’t go to a quilt show with her without her stopping to greet nearly everyone she meets.

Janet is such a treasure! I hope you enjoy listening to her interview.

More from Bishop’s Ranch retreat with Diane Ansel — Incredibly, Diane has only been quilting for THREE years. I almost fell off my chair when she said that she had only been quilting for that long. Her quilts are asbolutely amazing.

And here is Diane with her Best of Show Quilt

from Art Quilt Tahoe, which is her FIRST machine quilted quilt… (I’m trying not to be intimidated by Diane’s raw talent with quilting!):

Check out the close-up of her quilting detail:

I hope you’re inspired by this “new” quilter!

As part of my Quilting Stash birthday celebration I’m placing a show each day this week. Today I’m sharing another interview from Bishop’s Ranch Retreat with Pat Marabella of Santa Rosa. I really hope you’ll enjoy getting to know Pat — who is a dedicated Art quilter who loves color.

Here is Pat with her tablecloth quilt:

And here is Bodega, the fabric-beaded fish:

Isn’t he great?!

I had the unique pleasure of travelling to Healdsburg, California (about 60 miles north of San Francisco) to visit a quilting retreat in progress. Diane Perin Hock invited me to come and spend the day and meet this wonderfully warm group of quilters. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted with colorful quilts and happy quilters and I felt immediately at home.

Each of the quilters was working on delightful projects and I was inspired by each one. I’m so grateful that Diane invited me to come to the retreat and it was an even greater pleasure to meet this talented quilter, and blogger. Diane has written about the retreat in humourous detail, which you can share in by viewing Diane’s blog at Going to Pieces. You’ll love to see her photos of the retreat, too, and the projects that these talented ladies worked on.

Diane and I had a great conversation about many subjects, particularly Quilting Blogs. Here is a list of those Blogs, for your enjoyment:
Bishop’s Ranch – a great place for a retreat!
Brenda Smith’s blog New Zealand Quilter
Yarn Harlot
Melody Johnson’s website
Crazy for Fiber blog
Gabrielle Swain’s website
BlogHer

Wow! I am still reeling from the incredible time that I had during the all-too-short time that I spent with these quilters. I can’t wait until October, when I get to become one of them!

And, yes, Diane — you DO have to listen to your interview! ; ) It’s great!
